The darker part is rosewood, the pale yellow part is boxwood. I carved it for a friend so I didn't time myself.

I recently started using rosewood and I can tell you - it is not photogenic! Before some sort of a finish is put on it's still so-so, but after the finish it's very hard to take a good photo of it for some reason.

As you can see it has four angels holding the oval with Mary and the baby Jesus. Or, to use the Eastern Orthodox terms, four angels holding the oval with the Mother of God (Theotokos) and the infant Christ.
